The 2 1/2 hour boat ride to Cristina took us into an arm of the lake with
fantastically shaped icebergs, a glacier and mountain background.

During the night we listened to the wind scream around the exterior of
our cozy room. The clouds rolled in overnight, the winds continued to howl and we piled into a 4x4 pick-up for a 45 minute drive to the Upsala Glacier overlook.

It was misting at the high overlook obscuring most of the 50 mile long
glacier.
As the winds gusted to over 50 mph we braced ourselves, secured anything that
might blow away and began what would be a 4 hour walk back to the Estancia.
Whose idea was this????? First steeply down in a persistent light rain.
Then we turned a corner and with the wind at our backs began a gentle downward walk through a canyon with fossils of extinct ocean creatures and beautiful layers of sedimentary rock walls. The rain stopped and we had a brief respite from the wind and an even briefer lunch. Finally an easy stroll across the valley with lake views and the promise of a coffee and clean clothes before boarding the boat back to town.

Twice during the walk our guide described the weather as aggressive. No
kidding!
First during a few minutes of wind driven sleet at the overlook and
again in the canyon when a strong gust pelted us with tiny sharp rocks.

In retrospect is was an all encompassing Patagonian farewell: sunshine, rain,
WIND, beautiful scenery that constantly changed with the light and weather
conditions.

It's been great!.THANK YOU!!!!
